Wooden Hut

My name is Alon Shtamberger, 52-years-old, an IT professional. I have always loved to hike in nature and get to know new places. When I first started flying drones, I discovered a new and amazing world.

I first encountered drone photography about three years ago. I was sitting at a beach, and saw a child flying a drone with his father. It suddenly occurred to me how different the world must look from the drone's unique perspective.

My first drone was a rather cheap toy, and through it I discovered my passion for photography. Since then, it has become my main hobby, and I find myself going out to take photographs twice or three times a week. I studied the basic principles of photography and photo editing through a course in a photography school, and I continue to learn and develop as a photographer all the time. I see my sixth decade as an opportunity to combine my two great loves: nature walks and landscape photography from above. One of my favorite things about taking pictures with a drone is the ability to easily get almost anywhere and take pictures from every angle. It often happens that the picture I return home with is completely different from the picture which I set out to get.

Most of my photography is done in our beautiful country, where you can find countless sites for photography. Often, the drone lets me find new camera angles, even in places considered as totally covered and as photography locations that have nothing new to offer.

My hobby has caused me to hike more, constantly trying to locate new and special places to shoot. I was surprised to discover that although common belief is that in wintertime, the green Galilee and Golan Heights are the ideal sites for photography, for me, the Israeli desert is much more attractive and photogenic. The shapes that form in the desert and its unique textures have truly captured my heart.
